‘Costa was Chelsea’s Ibrahimovic – and they sold him,’ says

Chelsea lost their very own ‘Zlatan Ibrahimovic‘ when they sold Diego Costa to Atletico Madrid in September, according to former defender Ken Monkou.
Having fallen out of favour with manager Antonio Conte after an acrimonious disagreement, Costa sealed a move back to the Spanish capital to link up with his former club Atletico.
Costa was instrumental to Chelsea’s success last season as the Blues won the Premier League title, scoring 20 league goals in the process, while providing a significant physical presence in the final third.
Despite this, the Brazil-born Spanish international was deemed surplus to requirements by the Italian coach, prompting m8bet Atletico manager Diego Simeone to pounce for his former striker.
This campaign, Chelsea have struggled to replicate their form from last season, languishing precariously outside the top four, while successive winless matches in London derbies have added to their woes.
And Dutchman Monkou, who spent three years with Chelsea, believes the club are struggling to find form without the presence of the 29-year-old.
“In any team you need a figurehead – a player who leads you in battle and creates problems for the opposition, and Costa was that player for Chelsea,” he said, as reported by the Mirror.
